We're using DIY forms so our volunteers can complete their application on line. Many of our volunteers are retired and do not have a work phone, so having the required phone be a work phone doesn't make sense. I labeled the field Home Phone to make sure they would have something to enter AND put a note that it was OK to include your Cell phone as your Home phone if you had no land line. (Confusing already!). Many people do not wish to be bothered at work or work from home. Having the work phone as the default, required phone number is not logical or helpful. Now our data entry person has to move the information from the Work Phone field to the Voice field. Also, we already have several hundred volunteers in the database with their Voice, Mobile, and Work phone entered in the Persona Contact section, so creating defined fields for phone numbers doesn't make sense.
Thanks, Mike! One of the excellent support people at eTapestry (I think her name was Beth) walked me through that back in Aug/Sept, and all is good now!
The reason it is the required phone number on your form is because the Work Phone is the default in your database. This can be changed by going to Management, System Define fields and Phone Type Codes. You can set any of the phone types to be default. If it is not a form that takes donations then you do not have to have a phone number listed at all. This can be removed in the settings of that page. We are required, by our transaction providers, to have a phone number required on donation pages.
