Development teams are always looking for trends and as much information as possible. I regularly create gift reports for our leadership team and some of the standard fields I include are current gift info, first gift info, and largest gift info. It would be extremely beneficial to be able to see the second most recent gift (assuming the most recent is the gift just processed). This is important to us to be able to see if each donor has increased or decreased their giving according to the most recent gift given. Without the ability to pull this type of field, you must pull a second report of all journal entries for each donor or manually look into each donor's journal to see their most recent gift amount, date, and type.
