didn't require snail mail addresses in DIY signup forms

You should be able to control which fields are required on DIY forms. According to leading Social Media and the Social Web expert Heather Mansfield (Author of "Social Media for Social Good"), you should remove all barriers to getting people to sign up for your email list. Requiring a snail mail address is one of those barriers. According to Mansfield, "...it's important that you keep the subscription porcess as simple as possible. Don't require a snail mail address or a username and password to subscribe, and if you must ask for the person's name in order to personalize your campaign, make only the first name a mandatory field. If your nonprofit requires more than two or three pieces of information to subscribe to your e-newsletter, you will lose many potential subscribers." (Mansfield, 12).

I don't think the mailing address is required on the DIY form. You can make it not required. The problem is that you can make certain parts of the mailing address required. For instance, either the whole address (street address, city, state, and ZIP) is required or none is required. I wanted to be able to make just "City" and "State" required, but the DIY form doesn't allow for that.
