For example, if I wanted to compare a number of accounts at once I would instinctively middle click on a whole bunch of them expecting them to open different tabs in my browser. For some reason this isn't supported?
The inability to open multiple tabs is our single largest gripe with eTapestry. It's a HUGE inconvenience. For instance, I run a Query that returns 10 results. If I want to see the detial of each of the 10 found records, I need to open one, rerun the Query, open the second, rerun the Query, etc. In other systems we've used, I could simply Command/Control/Alt click on each record and open 10 tabs with the 10 records I need to look at. It takes us far more time to work in eTapestry -- and we place far more load on the eTapestry servers because we're constantly re-running queries and reports simply because we can't keep them open while looking at individual records.
I was just Googling to see how I can fix this issue. I want to generate a report and then select a constituent within the report and have the constituent information accessible in a separate tab. It would be much more efficient to toggle back and forth between tabs than to rerun a report each time.
How can this only have 12 votes?! How is everyone working effectively in eTapestry without this capability? Every database and spreadsheet I use allows multiple views in different windows or tabs, and it shocks me this functionality is missing from eTapestry in 2020. We waste so much time re-running reports, re-opening screens in a user's record because only one tab/window can be open at a time. It's a huge productivity killer for us, and it adds a ton more processing on the eTapestry servers for all the pages which much be opened and queries which must be repeatedly re-run.
Does anyone from Blackbaud development ever review and comment, or engage in discussion, about feature requests like this, or is this idea forum basically a black hole where customers submit ideas and they just die? I see lots of idea posts with hundreds of votes, going back over 4 or more years, which haven't been acted on -- only 9 planned ideas. This certainly gives the sense that this product is very stagnant and maybe we made the wrong choice selecting it; I hope that's not a correct perception.
It's so discouraging to me to find that this request has existed for more than three years, hasn't been addressed, and only has 12 votes. This is by far the most maddening part of using eTapestry! It's so ingrained in using web-based computer products that you can open links in separate tabs, it amazes me that this isn't allowed in eTapestry.
I waste hours of time because I need to make a screenshot of a journal message in order to view and enter the same information on a Persona page, or because I run a query with 10 results and I can't open those 10 records in 10 tabs and act on them -- I have to open one, re-run the query, open the next, etc. there are many great features in eTapestry, but this one thing makes me seriously question whether it can be our development platform for the long haul.
Please please do this. It would make queries and reports much much easier. This was possible in our old Raiser's Edge system. There have been some things e_tap allows us to do that RE didn't but on many frints it was vastly superior. This being one example.
THIS!! I find it frustrating especially if I am creating a query and not sure which fields I need. If I could open multiple tabs, I could keep the query active while I open a record to find the correct field I need to put in rather than wasting valuable time going back and forth and losing where I am.
Yes, especially when you run an onscreen report!! The whole purpose of an onscreen report is so that you can click on a name and easily get to someone's record. The way it is, if you click on the name you are in the same tab, so you have to re-run the report. But when you right-click to open a new tab, the new tab just opens the main eTapestry screen, rather than the person--which means you have to search and find the person anyway, which defeats the whole purpose of having clickable links on an onscreen report. Quite frustrating!

One of the reasons we moved away!

Agreed. It's frustrating that eTap has no ability to view two records or a record and a onscreen report at the same time.
