let you apply an online gift transaction to an existing pledge on the constituent's account?

If someone makes a payment on their pledge online, those online transactions will be entered into the database as recurring gifts. Once an entry is created there is no way to change the entry type from recurring gift to payments. Instead, you have to manually go in and re-create that transaction as a Payment and apply it to the Pledge. That is really inconvenient. Why bother setting up anything automatically if we have to end up doing it manually in the end? This is a BAD workaround. In understand that there is no way for online donations to be entered as payments since they cannot be matched to the pledge it is paying off. However, there should at least be an option to REASSIGN a gift to make it a pledge payment without having to completely RE-ENTER the payment.

    PLEASE, Etapestry, PLEASE revisit this issue! We're in the early stages of applying a fundraising strategy that is finally attracting multi-year pledges (and payments on those pledges), but not having the option to at least apply someone's online gift to an existing pledge is a real problem, especially when the donor explicitly chooses to set it up as a recurring annual payment (presumably so they don't have to worry- or have us bug them about it- again in the coming years).

    Yes, there should definitely be a way to change the online gift type from gift to payment. It is absurd to me that that isn't possible; we get people just paying off their regular year pledges who make the gift online. Then I have to go in and delete the (processed) gift and recreate it, which is not only inconvenient but feels insecure because I am deleting the gift with the actual credit card information in it and recreating it with a gift that doesn't have that attached to it.

    Being able to reassign a gift to a pledge would also be helpful from other perspectives too - major gifts or capital campaign.  We're running into this situation a lot:  a donor makes an initial gift and then they are canvassed to turn their gift into a 5 year pledge.  The initial gift should apply to their pledge total, so we have to delete and re-create the gift in the new pledge schedule.  Not only is that annoying extra work, but it also causes a headache for tax-receipting because we have to re-issue the tax receipt to the donor for the re-created gift.  Having to deal with unnecessary admin stuff like this can really turn off major donors, and explaining that it is a limitation of our donation system doesn't exactly give them great reassurance.  This should be a simple fix folks!

    We have to use an elaborate work around which causes our pledge write-offs to appear much higher than they actually are in order to apply the online transaction (or a payment made by a foundation or other account) to the pledge.

    I DO NOT understand why this is not possible. This is a basic accounting transaction. It is very frustrating that an online payment can not be applied to a pledge. PLEASE FIX THIS. Perhaps you can add a merge feature that connects the payment to the pledge. Thank you!

    It's really counterintuitive that this doesn't exist.  Especially in a program that is so comprehensive and friendly in so many other ways.  Online flexibility is key--please revisit this issue.

    It would be incredibly helpful and better for the integrity of our database if we could convert an online gift into a pledge payment.  The current process creates multiple steps of manual entry that increase our margin of error.

    I don't understand why applying an online gift to a pledge is not possible. your customers are having to manually delete and re-enter transactions? This is very time consuming and frustrating, especially for those that have a majority of online donations. Please fix this!

    Glad for this, but you need to allow the gift to be able to be split between 2 or more pledges! Or split between 1 pledge and the rest a general donation. Can you ADD this feature?

    I was sent an email that this new feature in e-Tapestry will fix this issue but that is incorrect. It will not apply recurring payments to a pledge payment per Samantha Fowler, Customer Service Support. There was no button to convert to pledge payment on my constituents online payment so I contacted customer service and here is her response.

    We can neither convert "recurring gifts" or "recurring gift payments" into pledge payments. If you don't want it linked to a recurring gift - it will need to be removed and added back in and linked to a pledge payment. I am sorry for that inconvenience. If you would like to see this added functionality to the database, we would recommend adding that idea to our community page for our developers to see that this is important to you.
